twenty nine years later . . .
The atmosphere in the drawing room of number twelve, Grimmauld Place, buzzed with alarm as Blaise Zabini spoke on the wireless. Copies of the Daily Prophet and other newspapers were scattered on the long oak table that rested against the southern wall. All eyes were set on Harry Potter as Zabini's grim words rang throughout the room.
“... will unite the wizarding world once again, restoring the honor and purity of the days of old...” The newly appointed Minister of Magic was saying. He hadn't said it, not directly, but what he was implying was obvious: a purge of muggle borns. Low murmurs filled the room as the Minister finished his speech. Somebody turned the wireless off wordlessly.
“How did we let this happen?” Somebody wondered out loud, though everyone knew exactly how it had happened. After the war, the Death Eaters had cooled down, and Zabini had seemed different... charismatic, to be sure. Now, though, it seemed like it had all been a ruse. The buzz of conversation filled the room again as people began suggesting courses of action, plans, how to fix this.
Ginny Potter looked up at her husband, her eyes clouded with worry as she asked the question on everyone's mind.
“What do we do?”
Harry paused for a second.
“Nothing.”
--
“Victoire? Vicki, what do we do?” Lily Luna Potter inquired of her oldest cousin. Victoire's brow knit in thought as she bounced her eighteen month old son her hip.
“You heard your father.” She said, eying the rather large group of her cousins and siblings that had amassed around her. “Why are you all in my house, again?” She did enjoy the company of her family, but not when twelve of them showed up unannounced and brought friends.
“We have to do something, we can't just 'wait to see what their move is',” James added in a perfect imitation of his father, ignoring Victoire's question.
“And we know you're just as upset about Daddy's decision as we are...” Lily continued.
“Well, yeah, but what are we going to do about it? They're in charge.” Victoire said absently as her son squealed.
“Vicki, we're adults. You're married and have a kid. We can make our own decisions.” Lily pushed. “Come on, if they're not going to do something, we have to. Victoire paused for a second.
“I can't believe we're doing this.” She said after a moment, looking at her cousins.
“Someone has to do it.” James replied.

“What do you mean, not a threat?” Scorpius Malfoy inquired of his father, who was currently having tea with the Minister. His mother stirred and coughed into her hand.
“They're just children playing war,” Zabini explained calmly as neither Draco nor Astoria had an answer for him. “Hardly the end of the world.” Scorpius's eyes narrowed at that.
“Go check on your sisters and niece, dear,” Astoria finally managed after recovering form her embarrassment. “They have such a knack for getting in trouble.” He left the room quietly, knowing it was not worth it to pick a fight with his parents when their minds were made up. Entering the nursery, he tapped on his eldest sister's shoulder.
“Meredith, can I borrow you?” She nodded and followed him into the hall.
“What is it?” She asked, looking slightly irritated. She had the temperament of a pack mule at times.
“Looks like our Minister is less competent than we though he was.” Scorpius said with a small frown. Meredith raised a brow.
“I told you they wouldn't care. They're so sure they've got everything under control.” Meredith drawled, tapping her fingers on the banister.
“We're going to have to do something.” Scorpius said in a hushed tone. Meredith smirked in reply.
“Of course we are.”

After the war ended, there were twenty five years of peace. The victors had grown content, comfortable- they thought that they had won, once and for all. But peace is not in the human nature. The losing side may not have had their all powerful leader anymore, but what they did have was a political sensibility, and sometimes that can be enough. As it were, that political sensibility was enough to get Blaise Zabini elected Minister of Magic. He'd claimed he had changed, just like the rest of the old Death Eaters, and he had a sort of trustworthy air about him. But, even twenty five years after the Dark Lord's death, Blaise Zabini was still very much Voldemort's man. Within weeks, the government was lost to the Death Eaters- only now they could call themselves the Ministry. With their base camp set up in Diagon Alley, the Order had to retreat to Hogwarts.
School closed, but for the most part, life went on. Hogsmeade became the home of many supporters of the Order as well as their familys, and there was a quiet period. Negotiation.
The older generation was tired of the flashy warfare, the unnecessary deaths. They were willing to talk things out, make rational decisions that would leave both sides happy.
The younger generation was more impulsive. After four years of waiting for an agreement to arise, they decided to take action into their own hands. The children of the Order turned a cold shoulder to their parents and formed The Resistance, a small army ready to take on the Ministry.
Unannounced to the elder generation, a very bloody war was about to begin.
